Hope to ink contract in next 2-4 years with India: Embraer

Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer is optimistic about India’s upcoming Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program, which aims to replace the ageing Soviet-era Antonov An-32 fleet. Bosca da Costa Jr., head of Embraer’s defence and security division, expressed confidence that the Indian government will finalize its choice for the MTA within the next two to four years.

To enhance its prospects in this lucrative market, Embraer has forged a strategic partnership with Mahindra Aerospace. The collaboration aligns with the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, a key criterion for the MTA program.

“We have a robust localization plan as mandated by this campaign, and that’s why we’ve chosen Mahindra as our partner,” da Costa emphasized. “We are collaboratively shaping this campaign and, if successful, we anticipate establishing a final assembly line for the aircraft in India.”
The Indian Air Force is looking to procure between 40 and 80 aircraft under the MTA program. Embraer’s partnership with Mahindra positions the company as a strong contender for this substantial contract, which holds immense strategic and economic importance for both nations.
